Casting Calls Expectations

Before any production or modeling shoot is scheduled a call is made for those interested in the opportunity. Conditions are set in place and a call is made for particular assignments. What are being sought are actors or models who meet established criteria for the activity whether a movie, play, or photo shoot. All of us know this!
It is so important that people see you as you really are and not just a body showing up for display. These nerve-wracking experiences have rewards associated with them. You just might experience an event that will change your life forever. Some of the best pinup posters have been accidents that just happened because someone was being themselves. Farrah’s “red bathing suit” picture is a classic example of casting gone right. The shot that is recognized around the world was really an accident, an extra click of the camera.
Knowing what is expected of you is very important to the success of a casting call. Get all of the information you can about the conditions of the shoot or audition. Find out who is going to be responsible for the ultimate decision about who gets the job. When arriving at the site, relax and enjoy the attention that will be lavished upon you for the next few minutes as that may be all the time you have to impress the “powers that be”. Come dressed appropriately for the task at hand. Arriving in a bathing suit to shoot winter clothing is not a good idea. Your assets may be displayed well, but the intentions you broadcast may be suspect.
With a little bit of luck, you just may be in the right place at the right time. Associate with the others who have made the call as you will probably know many of them. Do not see everyone as your competition, even though that is what they really are. You will really not get too far depending upon an act of God to strike your competition speechless. There will be many times where the friendships you create will lead to good things in the future. Be dependable and always available to anyone who might have a special need that day. It is a proven fact that honey attracts flies and in our business, we need every fly that shows up, from time to time. There have been times that directors, photographers, and other media types have changed their mind about what they are looking for because of something that they observed during the “call”.
In every situation, you are selling yourself. Your reputation is being established and evaluated in every contact that you have.
