If you are new to the world of runway modeling, then it can tend to be a bit overwhelming. So many models have aspirations of starting out in this type of modeling and are upset when it doesn’t pan out. Though a career in runway modeling specifically isn’t for everyone, it can be quite lucrative for those that qualify. You do need to be honest with yourself to be sure that you have what it takes, but rest assured that if you are the right fit it can really work out to your advantage. The reality is that not every model will make it within runway modeling, so there are a few basic and important things to keep in mind. You want to be sure to think these through as you approach the subject of runway modeling.

Know What This Typical Model Looks Like
Though there are always exceptions to the rule, there is a certain reality attached to this type of modeling. Most of the time, runway models tend to be on the taller side and that’s just fact. This is due in part to the way in which the fashions are made, and also has a lot to do with the type of walk that is required. Runway modeling really calls for a tall and skinny model, and if you are not that type then you may just want to be aware of that going into it. It’s not to say that a shorter model will never get a job in this capacity, but it’s just not usually the norm.

Get Some Pointers from a Trusted Resource
Not only is there a certain walk with this type of model, but there’s also a certain attitude about them too. It’s all part of the picture as you have to keep in mind that these models are typically working with top designers and are very visible in nature. Therefore whenever the opportunity presents itself, you want to be sure to get some pointers from a trusted resource. Whether it’s a fellow model who is quite successful in this area or a part of your team directly, you want to work with them to get the look and the feel down. This is very useful in any type of modeling, but particularly this type of modeling that requires a model to be a certain way. If you don’t believe it, then just take a look at them as they walk down the runway and see what it all looks like.

Practice Makes Perfect
You want the walk, the look, the attitude, and the whole picture—and you want to be sure that you have it before your first real walk down the runway. So practice it and know that it will pay off. Even if you feel silly practicing your walk or your look, know that it will all show through when you get that first big show. This is one area of modeling where you really can’t practice too much, so try it out and see how much more confident it makes you feel.
