Going Into Your Casting Call Prepared
Posted by Alexander Evdakov (Jan 26, 2010)

Short of actually landing a modeling job, the next best thing is to get in on a casting call. This audition represents potential and opportunity to the striving model. Though they can be competitive and filled with many other model hopefuls, they can also be what helps to springboard you into the wonderful world of modeling for good. They can be nerve wrecking at times, particularly when you look around at the competition, but if you go in prepared you are sure to be successful. Recognizing the sheer importance of each and every casting call is an important first step. You need to treat even the most seemingly small casting call as your next possible big break. You need to be sure that you are not only armed with all the right tools, but with the right attitude as well.
Do Your Research Ahead of Time
One of the best ways to ensure your success with each casting call is to go in as prepared as possible. Once you find out about a casting call, you want to take the time to do your research. Utilize whatever tools and resources you can to find out about the nature of the casting call and study up on the subject overall. If it's in a different type of modeling than you are used to, be sure that you practice your moves and are as prepared as possible. Any level of preparedness will show through and that's a huge draw for potential work. So take the time to study up and it could pay off big time!
Dress the Part
Once you take the time to study up, be sure that your look reflects what they are looking for. You may not be able to transform readily into the specific type of model that they are looking for, but you may be able to make a few minor adjustments. If they want a clean and fresh look, do your best to convey this and be sure not to weigh yourself down with heavy makeup. If you know that they are looking for a certain type of clothing, then by all means be sure that you wear it. There are very simple things that you can do to show not only that are prepared, but that you are serious about this potential role.
Arm Yourself with the Right Attitude
Here's the bottom line-though you may be quite nervous on the inside, you don't want that to show through on the outside. This is a time to work at subduing your fears and exude nothing but confidence and professionalism. Though you may need to get into "character" within the casting call itself, be sure that you remain calm, cool, and collected at all times. Don't let the competition rattle you because there will always be some level of competition. Learn to rise above and embrace the challenge, turning your anxiety into confidence. This is a recipe for success and the perfect way to land the job!
