How to Impress at an Open Call

An open call is a model’s opportunity to show exactly what they can offer in terms of ability and potential. Even the most gorgeous of girls can’t rely on looks alone and so, every wannabe model should adhere to some open call guidelines to ensure success in the modeling world.
Be Natural
Modeling agencies need to see who they will be representing. Don’t hide yourself under an inch of make-up. Aim to be polished yet make-up free if possible, or if you can’t face going completely fresh-faced, limit cosmetics to a little concealer and lip gloss.
Dress Appropriately
Never overdress. Agencies do not want to see what you would wear to a cocktail party. Keep it simple yet form fitting with absolutely no flounces or frills, which hide your body shape.
Arrive Prepared
Bring some suitable photographs. If you’re new to modeling, a few simple snapshots will be sufficient. Most agencies don’t expect an extensive, professionally shot portfolio on open calls for new talent.
Don’t waste your time or theirs
Most modeling agencies will have guidelines on their website, detailing what they expect from potential new models. These guidelines usually include height and age restrictions. Pay attention to them! If an agency is requesting heights over 5”8 and you’re 5”3 or if you’re a male model and an agency is only accepting women... don’t go to the open call. Do some research into other agencies, where guidelines may be relaxed or suitable for your age, weight or height.
