Key Trends for Spring/Summer 2011

Spring has almost arrived, which calls for a complete wardrobe overhaul for aspiring models. Trends for this season rely heavily on past influences as designers look back to earlier decades for inspiration. Dig out your bell bottom jeans, swap your stilettos for kitten heels and enjoy.
70’s Sophistication
70’s sophistication is a new take on a favourite era in fashion. This season, the 70’s look is sophisticated rather than boho. For daytime, team a pair of high-waist flared jeans with flouncy blouses or neat roll-neck sweaters.
For evening there’s the maxi dress from last season, which has been reworked in fabrics such as metallic silks and Lurex. Ferragamo sent models down the runway in chocolate shimmering maxis with plunging necklines. Wear something similar to shimmer on the dance-floor.
Biker Chic
As the military trend slowly fades from the fashion radar, it is being replaced with elements of biker styling.
The infamous leather jacket is a key piece this season. Buy it in black for a traditional take on biker chic or be inspired by Burberry’s modern versions which are available in colors such as silver, white or beige. Team with leather pants for a top-to-toe look or soften it up just a little with a raw-edged, frilled dress and mussed up hair.
Take a look at Chanel’s biker boot for inspiration on how to complete the look.
60’s Office Girl
This look has monopolized the Louis Vuitton, Dries van Noten and Prada runways. The key here is to look a little prim with just a dash of sex appeal. Sensible, flared, below-the-knee skirts can be teamed with a close fitting blouse or top.
Alternatively, work the hourglass silhouette with knee length pencil skirts or tight shift dresses. Top with kitten heels for an authentic look.
