Though it is the job of your "people" to get you the big jobs and ensure you look your best, you do play a role in it as well. From the very beginning, you need to learn how to creatively and effectively market yourself. This is how you get ahead and what helps to differentiate you from all the other models out there. If you're not familiar with marketing or what it takes to incorporate effective tactics in this industry, then you need to learn how quickly. There are a few simple but very effective ways to market yourself and to ensure that you get the jobs that you really want in the end.

Be Proactive and Be Sure That They Remember You
You want to really bulk up on work, particularly at the beginning of your modeling career. If you want to get that work and ultimately get ahead, then you need to find a way to get your face in front of them. Be proactive, send out your photos or portfolio to anybody you can think of. Naturally you want good representation along with this, but they should respect your desire to be proactive and to get your name and face in front of the people that really matter. You want to be sure that above anything else, they remember you and that you stand out from the crowd.

Be Willing to Take Risks
If you don't put yourself out on a limb, then you're never going to get ahead. This may mean taking the jobs that don't necessarily sound like you. This may mean going for the gusto and pushing for a meeting with an agency or publication that sounds out of your league. The world of modeling is a very competitive one, and if you don't find a way to get bold and take some risks, then you're not doing your part when it comes to marketing efforts.

Always Be Professional
A big part of marketing in any field is professionalism. Remember that above and beyond your pretty face, one of the most important elements within modeling is your reputation. If it becomes tarnished in any way or you develop a less than favorable reputation, then this can practically ensure that you won't get future work. Do your part to always act professional when you're on a modeling job. Take it one step further and try to always put your best foot forward, even when you're just out in public. The reality is that somebody can always be watching you and an opportunity may present itself to you at the most unusual and unforeseen time.

So before you do something that you regret or which may come back to haunt you later, be sure that you remember you are always a professional first and foremost. If you conduct yourself in an admirable way and develop a reputation as a true professional, that is the easiest and most effective way to market yourself possible.
