Casting calls are a big part of modeling. They may not necessarily be a part that you love or look forward to, but they are essential to landing the right jobs. The sooner you can accept and embrace them as a part of modeling, the better off you’ll be. There is so much to think about in terms of preparation for a modeling casting call. You want to be sure that you fit the part and that you make a good first impression. A big part of that is how you dress, and it’s important to never underestimate just how important this truly is. The manner in which you dress may very well cost you the job or land you the job. So think it through as you pick out what you wear to your next casting call.

Sometimes it’s easy because there is a theme or special request for you. If it happens to be a casting call for something very specific in nature, then by all means take your cues from that. This is not however the usual situation because nine times out of ten you will only find out limited information in advance. Even then, the dress attire or theme itself is not usually one of the details released. So it’s on you to dress the part and to find that perfect outfit to wear to the casting call that could help to put you on the map.

Recognize that this is not like a job interview. Though this is an essential part of landing modeling jobs, this shouldn’t be treated as a typical or traditional interview. Wearing a conservative and boring business suit is not usually proper attire. You want to insert your own fashion statement into your dress. While you don’t want to go totally wild and out of control, you do want it to show through that you get and are in touch with fashion. This is an important message to send at a casting call. So much of what you are judged on is your appearance, and therefore the way in which you dress will be very telling. Never go for over the top, but at the same time don’t go for too conservative either.

Take the time to look yourself over in the mirror. Do you have the right shoes? Does your outfit have the perfect accessories? All of these things are really important to your potential success as a model, so be sure that you are pulled together and that your eye for fashion shows through. Have a few classic pieces or accessories that you can use to add the right flair to any outfit. Know that the way in which you dress will play a big part as to if you get the job or not. Be fashionable and smart, and that will always serve you well.
