A pretty young girl and a handsome young man are easy to find. One is able to see many examples of each on any given trip to the mall. With that being said, if you elect to become a model, you have entered one of the most demanding professions in our society. You are depending upon a considerable amount of "luck" to be on your side during your introduction to the business. All of the warnings that you have had from many well-intentioned people must be taken into consideration as you navigate the swirling world of the lights and the runway. As you make this first step, realize that the only one who really has your best interest at heart is you. There are many wonderful and considerate people in our industry, but there are also those whom we would like to see in another line of work.

Since you were not born into the profession, the first thing that you must think about is the proper training which gives you a knowledge basis upon which to build. A sad fact of life is that you have the look and the raw talent or you do not. At this point you must have the necessary funding available in order to secure the required photos and the training you will need in order to present yourself to an agency. There are franchise training schools where the basics can be mastered and where the quality of the training varies from one location to another. The one thing that you must look for is quality time before the cameras. The more time you spend in front of the camera, the more relaxed you will become and your movements will be more fluid. A good finishing school can also be a source of training, but these are really expensive. Regardless of what school is chosen, there is no guarantee associated with their training. As mentioned before, the right looks will get one in the doors of most modeling agencies.

As with any profession, what you are concerned about is making a good living for yourself. Modeling does belong to the young in our world. You must prepare yourself for the reality of one day not being as young as you are today. To be a successful model, you must also prepare yourself for the fact that you will not always be in front of the lights. There is a life after modeling and you must prepare for it. There is a good demand for models across the broad spectrum of the business world. The world of the high fashion model is the hardest segment of modeling to break into. Do not restrict yourself to only that niche of our industry. Good money can be made when you are associated with a successful photographer who has contacts throughout the business community and has steady work. As you work, you will be gaining experience and with experience comes success in our community.
